Competition Rules
Please Read This Page Before Entering Your Submission
Definitions
1. "We", "Us" , "Our" means American Youth Symphony, the sponsoring organization of
America's Hot Musician, its employees, partners and affiliates, including but not limited to
judges, producers, and staff of America's Hot Musician.
2. "Musician" means instrumental musician and excludes vocalists and rappers.
3. "Entrant" means any person competing in this competition eighteen (18) years of age and
older and the parent or legal guardian acting on behalf of a minor who is competing.
Terms and Conditions
By participating in our Competition entrants agree to be bound by these rules (which may be
amended or varied at any time by us) and by our decisions which are final in all matters
relating to the Competition.
In order to be eligible to compete, entrants, including the parents and legal guardians of
participants under the age of 18 , must agree to (1) register online through the America's Hot
Musician website (2) provide a notarized parental consent form if required; (3) release us
from any and all liability, claims, demands, and causes of action for personal injury and/or
damage, theft, or loss suffered in connection with the Competition, save where due to our
negligence; (4) release us from any and all liability, claims, demands, and causes of action
for verbal statements or interactions made to or about you in connection with this
Competition by judges, producers,other affiliated persons and competitors and (5) sign a
promotional release granting us the right to use your name and likeness, including but not
limited to your performance(s) and interview(s), for advertising and publicity purposes without
compensation; and (6) sign an acknowledgment that all performances interviews and footage
of you during the production of America's Hot Musician become the sole property of American
Youth Symphony. Entry into the Competition constitutes the entrant's and/or winner's
agreement to sign such releases and acknowledgments . The winner must complete all legal
documents and return them to us within five (5) working days of receipt from us.
Non-compliance will result in disqualification of the winner and an alternative winner will be
selected.
Object of Competition
America's Hot Musician TM (AHM) is a reality television talent competition for INSTRUMENTAL
musicians. The object of the competition is to select, by combination of a judging panel and
public voting, a musician who in their collective view, demonstrates the best combination of
musical ability and marketable appeal for the purpose of recording an album appropriate for
one or more major radio formats.
Eligibility
1) The competition is open to musicians of all styles and performance levels who are United
States residents and who will be between the ages of sixteen (16) and thirty two (32) years of
age as of May 1, 2007. Entrants under the age of eighteen (18) at the time of registration,
are required to obtain the consent of a parent or guardian to be eligible.
2) Entrants may not be party to any recording or management agreement at any time during
their participation in the Competition, excluding registration.
3) Entrants must agree that their entry into the Competition, constitutes an agreement to be
bound to, and enter into, a one year recording agreement with the American Youth
Symphony or, at its sole discretion, and upon its assignment, with the recording company
designated by American Youth Symphony should he/she become the Competition winner.
4) ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. However, you may perform multiple instruments in your
submission and the competition.
5) Immediate family members of American Youth Symphony, the sponsor of America's Hot
Musician, and its employees, partners and affiliates, including hosts, judges and auxiliary
musicians and production staff, are not eligible.
Registration Process
1) Because of the complexity in auditioning a multitude of instruments, auditions are by
invitation only and you must be between the ages of 16 and 32 by May 1, 2007. There are
two ways to be invited. 1) Submit a link to a video upload of yourself on a site such as
YouTube etc, or audio link (with picture) to info@americashotmusician.org ; OR 2) Mail in
order of preference, a DVD, mini DV, VHS or Audio CD (with picture) of yourself to America's
Hot Musician 507 Roosevelt Blvd C-220 Falls Church, VA 22044. Whether emailing or snail
mailing, you must include your name age return email and phone number contacts.
Deadline
All submissions must be received by us no later than April 15,2007. If you are invited to
audition, you will be notified on or before April 25,2007.
Location of Competition, Travel and Lodging
Auditions (same as first round) and second round will be held in Washington, DC over a
four-day period in late May 2007. All competitors (with the exception of the YouTube
semi-finalists) are responsible for travel to and from Washington, DC. All competitors (with
the exception of the YouTube semi-finalists) are also responsible for lodging and meals
during the audition (same as first round) and second round of the competition. Lodging and
meals will be provided by producers only during the semi-final round, at which time
competitors will be housed in a supervised, MTV Real World style housing environment.
The approximate time from the beginning of round one to the end of round two is four days/
three nights.
The semi-final, final round and winner's concert will be shot later in the summer,TBA, in 2007.
If selected to advance past the second round, all travel, lodging and meals will be provided by
the producers.
Waiver, Promotional Release and Acknowledgment
You will be required to sign a waiver, promotional release and acknowledgment as described
in under Terms and Conditions .
Competition Process
First Round
All musicians who are selected to audition are automatically in the first round. You will
be performing in front of the judges and will appear on the TV show.
Second Round
The second round involves recording a short song selected by the producers, or an original,
in the recording studio and then taping a short impromptu music video to the recorded tracks.
The judges will then critique your performances.
Semi Final Round
Semi-finalists will move, at a later date in the summer, into a supervised living facility where
they will undergo more intense musical and stylistic preparation for the final round. Their
progress will be voted by the judges AND by the public.
Final Round and Winner's Concert
Finalists will be brought back to Washington, DC in September for live performances with the
winner performing his/her own concert.
Competition Winner
The winner of the Competition will be signed to a one year recording contract with American
Youth Symphony or one of its affiliate, partner or designee recording companies.
Finalists and Semi-Finalists
May be asked to participate in America's Hot Musician recording projects.
How the Music Will be Performed and Chosen
Entry Submissions
Prospective competitors may perform any song of their choosing.
First Round
All auditions are part of the program and will be shown on television.
Competitors will perform solo, in any style, an original song or any song in the public domain.
Second Round
Competitors will perform in the recording studio, a song from the advance list provided in their
Competition Package. During this round competitors will have some rehearsal preparation
time as determined by the producers. NOTE: Rehearsal and preparation time during this
round will be extremely limited so prepare BEFORE you get to the Competition.
Semi-Final and Final Rounds
Competitors will perform with each other and from pre-recorded tracks from a song list
provided by the producers or at the sole discretion of the producers, the competitor's original
material. There will be ample time allotted for rehearsal and preparation.
Rider
Competitors are responsible for providing their own instruments except that a standard drum
kit (small bass drum) , a keyboard with basic sounds (piano, electric piano) and amps for
keyboard, bass and guitar and other amplified instruments will be provided during the first
and second rounds. Drummers and keyboardists are of course welcome to bring their own
instruments. All entrants whose instruments require sound amplification, must provide their
own 1/4 cords, clip microphones, cables and any other necessities during the first and
second rounds.
Tip and Reminder
Entrants should keep in mind that this competition is in search of musicians with marketable
appeal in addition to musical ability. Your visual style, dress, persona, and musicianship are
being judged for a total package to become America's Hot Musician TM.
